Planning a vacation can take hours when it’s unguided. But, with the right direction and an ultimate checklist of what to do, that planning time can be cut way down! Vacationing should be the opposite of stressful (or at least, with as little stress as possible.) To give you a hand in smoothly planning, we have created a checklist that hits all of the major points on what you need to make sure you do before setting off on a brand-new adventure!

  • Decide where you want to go. Sounds simple, but without the destination, planning the other parts of the trip will be impossible.
  • Book your stay. This is best to do before planning transportation because your stay dates certainly depend on having a place to sleep.
  • Plan your transportation. Maybe you are taking a family road trip, or maybe your flights need to be booked. Either mode you take to your destination, be sure to plan thoroughly that you’ll be able to get where you’re going safely and in time.
  • Make a packing checklist. Yes, we are adding a second checklist because hey, they work! When packing for a whole family, getting your ducks in order will certainly take some time. A simple checklist of necessities can help your brain stay organized and will simplify your planning process. Make sure to add: phone, wallet, clothes, favorite sunglasses.
  • Schedule your must-do activities. This is one of the most fun parts. Once your stay and travel are both booked and your bags are packed, it’s time to plan ahead what your vacation is going to look like. This means planning activities for the kids, planning an adult’s dinner, and getting a tentative schedule together on what your trip will be.
  • Tell your family and friends and get excited! Phew! The planning is done for now and all you have left to do is prepare for the travel date. This is when you get the pet-sitters, house-sitters, and more ready for your upcoming absence. Get excited and get the kids ready. Also, don’t forget to water the plants on your way out.
