Summer Essentials for the Lake

Spending some time on the reservoir near Sand Hollow Resort is guaranteed to be a fantastic day of fun and adventure for the entire family. While you’re busy planning all the activities you want to do at the lake, we want to make sure you don’t forget to pack the essentials to help you have fun and stay healthy all day.

Our summer temps here in Southern Utah climb pretty quickly. While you might feel cool and refreshed while swimming all day, your body experiences the effects of the sun and heat. Enjoying a day on the lake includes taking care of yourself so you can stay out there longer without harming yourself.

Here are some summer essentials you need to pack to enjoy all day on the lake:

Water:

Packing a cooler filled with ice and your favorite beverages will keep you hydrated all day long. The sun and hot temps can quickly dehydrate you making you feel lightheaded and sick. Making sure to drink fluids while you enjoy all of the water activities on the reservoir will help you keep going all day long.

Packing yourself a cooler filled with water, seltzers, sports drinks, or even juice can help you stay refreshed.

Sunscreen:

Being in the water all day keep your skin feeling cool to the touch, but those UV rays from the sun are still doing damage. Sunburns happen quickly and can lead to you feeling uncomfortable for the rest of your stay at the Sand Hollow Resort. Make sure to reapply every two hours to keep those nasty and painful sunburns away. Sunglasses are also an excellent choice to keep your eyes protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Snacks:

Boating, swimming, water sports, and fishing are all relaxing, but it is very easy to let the hours pass while having fun and forgetting to eat. Keep your energy up all day on the reservoir by packing snacks ahead of time. A day on the lake is a great opportunity to pack yourself those salty snacks you’re always craving. The salt can help you keep your electrolytes up while exerting energy on the lake. Chips, crackers, nuts, and seeds are all great choices that don’t need to be kept cold. If you pack yourself a cooler filled with ice, fruit, yogurts, and cheeses are also good choices for filling snacks to keep your energy up all day.

Extra Towels and Clothes:

Extra towels and clothes are an excellent choice for you and your family if you plan on spending the entire day on the water. Wet towels stop doing their job pretty quickly, and they can take a while to dry. Having at least one extra towel lets you change your towel out for a dry one when you’re trying to take a break from swimming.

Extra clothes are also a good choice. Chances are, after a day on the lake, you might want to finish your day with a meal at a local restaurant, and eating at a restaurant in wet clothes is never comfortable. Pack yourself a change of clothes for that last-minute change of plans, so you don’t have to go in wet clothes.

At the Sand Hollow Resort, we want everyone to have a safe and fun day on the reservoir. A few essentials can help you stay energized, hydrated, and comfortable all day. Don’t let that summer heat zap all of your fun.
