Whether you’re in Southern Utah for business or pleasure (hopefully for fun), you are never far from some of North America’s most beautiful state parks. Arguably one of the best state parks in Utah, Snow Canyon State Park is one of our favorite recommendations for guests staying with us at Sand Hollow Resort.
After a beautiful, 30-minute scenic drive through the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area, you’ll arrive at Snow Canyon State Park. Carved between red and white sandstone, Snow Canyon offers families with children of all ages and experienced rock climbers, breathtaking views, and spectacular activities.
The Trails at Snow Canyon State Park
You can explore the trails at Snow Canyon State Park on foot, on a bike, or even on horseback. With over 38 miles of trails, Snow Canyon offers easy to moderate trails depending on your interests and plans for the day.
One of our favorite hiking trails for families with children is the Sand Dunes Trail. After a short half-mile hike, the Sand Dunes Trail opens up into a large area of red sand that children love to play in.
If you love to bike, or simply need something accessible for everyone, the Whiptail Trail is a 6-mile paved trail that flows along the bottom of the canyon. Walkers, cyclists, runners, and families enjoy this trail for the views and ease of access.
No matter which trail you choose, you’ll find breathtaking views, rocky slopes, lava flows, and maybe even an ancient Native American carving or two.
Horseback Riding at Snow Canyon State Park
At just over 7,400 acres, it’s impossible to see the entire park on foot. That’s why we recommend exploring the park on horseback. Pack a picnic and reach some of the park’s famous landmarks on horseback. Sand Hollow Resort’s Guest Services can help you connect with one of the several companies that offer horseback excursions through Snow Canyon. The horseback trails are even beginner friendly!
Camping at Snow Canyon State Park
The park is open from 6 AM-10 PM every day, but it’s impossible to see the entire park in one day. Some people love to set up campsites, stay the night and wake up among the Navajo sandstone cliffs’ peaceful scenery.
Snow Canyon State Park has 35 campsites available to reserve throughout the year.
Rock Climbing at Snow Canyon State Park
If endurance and adventure are more your speed, you’ll love the rock-climbing opportunities at Snow Canyon. Rock climbers from all over the world come to Snow Canyon to traverse the parks’ rocky cliffs.
Don’t worry if you’re a beginner rock climber. Our Guest Services can connect you with climbing experts that take our guests through the park’s cliffs for climbing lessons and more.
